Confession. I LOVE the smell of sawdust. I always have. In fact, it's got to be about my favorite smell in the whole world.
To this day; any time I catch a big whiff of the stuff, it takes me back to childhood, and my dad walking into the house from his shop, covered in big shavings. (I think he did it to impress my mom. And I think it worked.)
As I've shared; I grew up in a family of remarkably talented woodworkers. I often joke about the talent skipping a generation with me, but the truth is, I never really put forth the effort. And I think I have probably missed out on something pretty great.
But it did create in me a tremendous appreciation for the hundreds of hours and the blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into making some of my family's most prized possessions ... pieces that are to this day making the homes of countless family members and friends beautiful.
This morning, we opened our first retail store in historic downtown Rogers, Arkansas. The team at White River House & Home has put in so much hard work to get it ready, and we cannot wait to show it to you.
Standing on the sales floor and watching my dad hanging handmade clocks on the wall, with the air still scented by the sawdust from the pallet wood walls we've built makes a guy a little nostalgic.
I hope you will take a few minutes while you're here to stop and smell the sawdust.
